Russian MFA: Russia sees Iran as an important and reliable partner in the new world realities

14 July 2022

Russia sees Iran as a reliable partner and ally in the context of the formation of a new world order, which the West is trying to prevent. The statement was made on Thursday by Mikhail Bogdanov, Special Representative of the Russian President for the Middle East and Africa and Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia, at the conference "Russia and Iran: Historical Parallels and Interrelationships in the 16th-21st Centuries" at the Russian State University for the Humanities.

"Moscow and Tehran stand firmly on the positions of complete rejection of diktat and blackmail against sovereign states, interference in their internal affairs, economic pressure and other actions contrary to the fundamental principles of the UN Charter. We see in Iran a reliable partner and like-minded person in the context of global changes associated with the formation of a multipolar world order and attempts by the collective West to oppose this objective process by any means and to restrain the natural course of history," he said.

The high-ranking diplomat noted that the best response to these challenges would be an even deeper cooperation of independent countries like Russia and Iran "in spite of the efforts of enemies." "It is gratifying to see such determination on both sides. Today, Iran for Russia is not only a neighbor with whom we maintain multifaceted ties in the spirit of friendship and respect, but also a reliable and important partner in international affairs," Bogdanov added.

On Tuesday, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters about Russian President Vladimir Putin's planned visit to Tehran on July 19, where he will meet with Iranian and Turkish presidents Ebrahim Raisi and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, as well as Iranian spiritual leader and leader Ali Khamenei.
