Russian military came under fire while patrolling in Syria

Two Russian soldiers were slightly concussed while patrolling In Idlib, Syria, when militants fired a hand-held grenade launcher at their armored personnel carrier, the Russian center for reconciliation of the warring parties told reporters.


According to the military, on August 25, during a Russian-Turkish patrol of the M-4 highway near the town of Urum al-Jawz in the southern part of the Idlib de-escalation zone, a patrol column was fired from a hand-held anti-tank grenade launcher.

 

 

"As a result, an armored personnel carrier of the Russian military police was damaged. At the same time, two Russian servicemen received light concussions. Patrols were stopped. The personnel of the Russian part of the patrol was returned to the point of deployment. All necessary medical assistance was provided to the victims on the spot, and their health condition is satisfactory, " the Center said. The damaged BTR-82 was evacuated.


The command of the Russian group of troops in Syria, in cooperation with the Turkish military, as well as with the Syrian security agencies, establishes the involvement of militants operating in the Idlib de-escalation zone in the attack on the column.


Last week, a munition exploded in the path of a Turkish military vehicle from a joint patrol with Russia. And in mid-July, militants detonated a homemade bomb on the M-4 highway near the village of Arihah. Then three soldiers from Russia were slightly injured, as well as the crew of a Turkish armored car.
