SCO emphasized the importance of the Victory over Nazism in the fate of the entire world

The Victory over Nazism, fascism and militarism 75 years ago determined the fate of the entire world, the Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Vladimir Norov told TASS.

"The 75th anniversary of the Victory day is an event of world-historical significance. The world has changed significantly since that memorable date - May 9, 1945: several generations have grown, science and technology are rapidly developing, socio-economic opportunities have expanded, new cultural monuments are being created, and space is being developed. It is difficult to imagine the possibility of all this without the Victory 75 years ago over Nazism, fascism and militarism. The more time passes, the more obvious becomes the great significance of the Great Victory, which predetermined the fate of the entire world," the Agency quotes the SCO Secretary-General in particular.

May 9, as Norov says, is a holiday that is celebrated in many SCO countries.

"This is a symbol of our common pride - first of all, for our fathers and grandfathers who performed a great feat of arms. This holiday embodies the unity, friendship and mutual support of many countries and peoples, especially the peoples of the SCO family, who suffered enormous sacrifices in the name of Victory in WWII, "he added.

According to Vladimir Norov, the memory of the joint struggle "is the greatest asset of our peoples, who are committed to friendship, good-neighborliness and mutual support for the benefit of joint development, that is, the ideals that are inscribed in the Charter of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization."

Vladimir Norov also answered a question from an Agency correspondent about attempts by some forces to forget or distort the significance of the Victory of the peoples of the former USSR and the countries of the anti-Hitler coalition over fascism.

"We must resolutely resist attempts to give distorted moral and legal assessments of the results of the war, to forget the lessons of this universal tragedy," he stressed, adding that the Victory in WWII defined the foundations of the modern world order, which are embodied in the Charter of the United Nations.

The member-states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, in their turn, reaffirming their commitment to the main purposes and principles of the UN Charter and universally recognized norms of international law, call for active cooperation in enhancing the authority and role of the UN, forming a just and democratic international order, strengthening security and stability in the world, as well as increasing efforts to combat modern challenges and threats.

The SCO members are eight states-Russia, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
