SCO Secretary-General: Organization Becomes Pillar for a New Model of Multilateral Development

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is becoming a pillar for shaping a new model of multilateral cooperation that enables productive interaction among states with diverse social systems, Secretary-General of the SCO, Zhang Min said.

 

"The SCO is becoming a pillar for the creation of a new model of multilateral interaction, based on solidarity and cooperation among countries with different social systems and development paths, openness and mutually beneficial contacts, as well as inclusiveness and mutual understanding," he emphasized at a reception organized to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the organization's secretariat.

 

The secretary-general noted that since its inception, the SCO has steadfastly advocated for a world order based on international law with the central role of the UN, actively participated in global governance, contributed to the establishment of "a new type of international relations based on the principles of mutual respect, justice, mutually beneficial cooperation," as well as "the formation of a community of shared destiny for humanity."

 

Zhang Min clarified that the "Shanghai spirit," which embodies mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality, consultation, respect for the diversity of civilizations, and the pursuit of common development, continues to strengthen. He reminded that the SCO Secretariat actively participates in international events, including the annual sessions of the UN General Assembly, its specialized agencies and bodies, various forums organized by other regional organizations, and dispatches observer missions to elections and referendums.
