Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a decree on Wednesday introducing a state of emergency in the capital of the republic, the press service of the head of state reported.
"In connection with the serious and imminent threat to the safety of citizens in order to ensure public safety, restore law and order, protect the rights and freedoms of citizens, to introduce a state of emergency within the city of Nur-Sultan for the period from 16:00 on January 5, 2022, until 00:00 on January 19, 2022," the decree of the President said.
In addition, a curfew from 23:00 to 07:00 is introduced in the city for the duration of the state of emergency.
