Syria supports Russian President Vladimir Putin's efforts to strengthen security and stability in several regions of the world where the West has encouraged crises, Syrian Foreign and Emigrant Affairs Minister Faisal Mekdad said on Monday during talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
"I would like to mention the important and major role played by Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin to strengthen security and stability not only in the Middle East," the Syrian foreign minister said.
"We reaffirm our support for Syria for Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin's efforts to overcome the crises that the West encourages everywhere and causes an escalation in some parts of the world," he added.
Mekdad said the West is encouraging Ukraine's aggression against Russia.
"The campaign the West is waging at the moment, the campaign of lies and misrepresentation is the same campaign they waged against Syria. At a time when the West is encouraging Ukraine in its aggression against Russia, supplying Ukraine with modern weapons and building military bases on its territory, thus violating all the agreements that are signed in the international arena, at the same time [they] say that Russia is to blame for everything," Mekdad said.
