Syrian Prime Minister Hussein Arnous called the bombing of a gas pipeline in the suburbs of Damascus "a message" of terrorists ahead of talks by a small group of the Syrian Constitutional Committee, which resumes work in Geneva on Monday.

On Monday night, a powerful explosion occurred on the gas pipeline between the settlements of Dumayr and Adra in the suburbs of the Syrian capital. The supply of electricity throughout the country was subsequently stopped. The Syrian authorities said that the cause of the explosion was a terrorist attack. The supply of electricity to a greater extent was recovered three hours after the explosion. By Monday morning, fire crews, with the assistance of the army, had contained the fire and started repairs.

"This is the message of the terrorists on the eve of the negotiations of the small Constitutional Commission, which, as you know, starts today. They want to convey to us that their language is destruction and harm," Arnous told reporters at the scene of the explosion.

The Syrian Constitutional Committee resumes its work on Monday after a nine-month break. Representatives of the government and opposition will meet again in Geneva under the auspices of the UN in a small group to continue discussing the new Constitution of the country.

The Prime Minister said that repairs on the gas pipeline were planned to be completed within a day.

"God willing, all the damage to the gas pipeline caused by the terrorist attack will be repaired by the end of the day thanks to the efforts of the army, employees of oil and gas companies," Arnous said.

According to the Prime Minister, the power supply was restored to 60% in the Syrian provinces within three hours after the explosion. In Damascus, the electricity came back an hour later.
