During the conference's commencement in Tehran, which delves into the cooperation between the Islamic republic and BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa), Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Affairs Mehdi Safari emphasized that the combined capabilities of the BRICS countries have granted the coalition a unique and significant role in the global arena.
"The capabilities of BRICS member countries have empowered this coalition to hold a distinct position on the global stage," Safari stated, as reported by Iran's Fars News Agency. He underscored that Iran's economic potential for collaboration with BRICS nations is substantial. "Russia, India, and China stand as some of Iran's key economic partners in the region, with robust economic ties and the establishment of strong strategic cooperation and partnership," he emphasized.
Speaking about the sanctions imposed by several Western nations against Tehran, Safari highlighted that Iran possesses substantial capabilities in transportation and energy sectors. He added, "We are confident that BRICS can play an even more significant role in collaboration with other countries."
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov is currently visiting Iran on August 7-8. His agenda includes meetings with Iran's foreign ministry leadership to discuss matters related to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action for resolving the Iranian nuclear program and Iran's engagement with BRICS.
The BRICS summit, chaired by South Africa, is scheduled for August 22-24 in Johannesburg. South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Naledi Pandor mentioned that the summit will delve into discussions about the expansion of the organization. She noted that 23 countries have formally expressed interest in joining the organization.
