Any US military action against Iran will lead to a full-scale conflict with consequences for the entire Middle East region. The Iranian Permanent Mission to the United Nations said this on Monday after an attack on a military facility in Iran's Isfahan.
"From Iran's perspective, choosing the military option at any level means the US going to war. At this point, Iran considers such an option to be weak," the Iranian post office told Newsweek.
The Islamic Republic's mission to the United Nations said that if "the US miscalculates and starts a war," Washington would be responsible for the consequences of such a conflict "for the region and the world." The permanent mission stressed that in such a scenario Iran would be able to "protect its security and interests."
In turn, an unnamed US Defense Department spokesman told Newsweek that "no US military forces have launched any strikes or conducted any operations in Iran." He assured Newsweek that the United States was "continuing to monitor the situation," without giving any details.
US Army Major John Moore, a spokesman for the US Central Command (CENTCOM), told the publication that the Pentagon was not involved in the events in Iran. "The US military was not involved in the strike on Iran that occurred over the weekend," he added.
On the night of January 29, the IRNA news agency reported that a large explosion occurred in Isfahan, a city in central Iran. Later, the country's defense ministry stated that on January 28, there was a failed drone attack on one of the ministry's centers. According to the ministry, one drone was shot down, the other two fell into defensive traps and exploded. No one was injured in the attack, and there was minor property damage. The statement did not specify who Tehran considered to be involved in the attack.
