The Mission of Russia to the OIC discussed the contribution of the Muslim Ummah to the Victory in the Great Patriotic War

Permanent Mission of Russia to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held a three-hour video conference devoted to the Victory if the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War. Taking into account the objective religious and political specifics of the OIC activities and the increased interest of the Organization’s member states in the activities of the Muslim Ummah in the territory of the former Soviet Union, special emphasis was placed during the video conference on the contribution of the Soviet Muslims to the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

 

The conference was attended by Russian Permanent Representative to the OIC Ramazan Abdulatipov, Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan to the OIC Abdullaev Shahin Shakir oglu, Consul General of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Jeddah (the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia), Deputy Permanent Representativ of Kazakhstan to the OIC Shaldanbai Talgat Rakhimkululy, Consul General of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Jeddah (the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia) Shamsutdinov Sirajudin, Deputy Chairman of the Association of Russian Diplomats, Professor, Head of the Middle East and North Africa Studies Section at the National Research University Higher School of Economics Baklanov A.G., Professor at the National Research University Higher School of Economics Vorobyov S.A., Advisor to the Head of the Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs Amirov R.B., Advisor to the Chairman of the Civic Chamber of the Chelyabinsk Region Yagnakova E.Z., journalist, Head of the International Educational Project “Dialogue of Cultures”, member of the Diplomatic Club at MGIMO University Tatarnikova K.D., students of Moscow State University, Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Russia, Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, representatives of the children’s movement “Diplomats of the Future” - high school students of Nalchik Kabardino-Balkaria gymnasium No. 4. The total number of participants was 84 people from different cities of Russia, Middle East countries and Europe.

 

The event was moderated by Professor at Moscow State University and Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration Belikova A.A. and Second Secretary of the Permanent Mission to the OIC Taratinova N.V.

 

The event discussed the participation of the Muslim Ummah of the USSSR in the Great Patriotic War, its role in the defeat of fascism.

 

In particular, it was about the heroic exploits of representatives of Russian, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and other Soviet peoples during the Great Patriotic War; about a military pilot, twice Hero of the Soviet Union Amet-khan Sultan; about Soviet Muslim religious figure G. Rasulev, who in May 1942 addressed to all believers with a speech imbued with patriotism and love for the Motherland, and declared a holy war - jihad - to German fascism, calling on the Muslims of the USSR to fight in the Red Army.

 

During the conference, the participants were familiarized with the existing patriotic projects aimed at involving young people in the preservation of the memory of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War, namely “The Personality and Destiny of Musa Jalil” and “Golden Rules of Morality”. Issues and, in general, the contribution of the Muslim world to the victory over fascism in World War II were discussed.

 

Speakers agreed that the patriotic position of ordinary believers and their spiritual mentors was expressed in various forms: active participation in battles at the front and in the enemy rear, raising funds for the Defense Fund, supplying the Red Army with weapons, equipment and food, support for families of soldiers who went to the front, care of millions of citizens evacuated from areas of combat actions.

 

The participants of the video conference highly appreciated the organization of the event and took an active and lively part in the discussion of the stated topics. They spoke in favour of continuing such meetings in the format of video conferences on the platform of the Permanent Mission of Russia to the OIC with the participation of experts, scholars, diplomats and specialists.

 

Colleagues from diplomatic missions of CIS countries noted the innovative approach in organizing the conference using modern information technologies.

 

The next such meeting will be devoted to the 15th anniversary of the Russian Federation’s accession to the OIC, which is celebrated in June of the year 2020.

 

Students of Moscow State University, Diplomatic Academy, Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, the director, teachers and pupils of Nalchik Gymnasium expressed special thanks for the opportunity to participate in an important patriotic action.
