The Russian President may address the UN General Assembly on September 22

02 September 2020

Russian President Vladimir Putin may address the 75th anniversary session of the UN General Assembly on September 22. This is evidenced by the widespread preliminary program of speeches at general political debates.

This year, the debate is planned to be held in the format of recorded video performances due to quarantine restrictions. However, as previously noted in the UN, leaders are not prohibited from personally coming to the headquarters of the organization.

At the moment, the Russian leader is listed seventh in the list of speakers. He will be preceded by speeches by the heads of Brazil, the United States, Turkey, China, Chile and Cuba. On the same day, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and French President Emmanuel Macron plan to address the General Assembly.

This year's high-level week will be held from September 22 to 29, mostly in a virtual format. At the moment, US President Donald Trump and Secretary-General Antonio Guterres have announced their possible personal presence at the UN.
