Turkey Intensifies Contacts Regarding Grain Deal Ahead of Erdogan-Putin Meeting

14 August 2023

Turkey has intensified its communication with Ukraine, the US and the EU regarding a grain deal in anticipation of a potential summit between Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin. A diplomatic source informed TASS about these developments.

"Turkey has intensified its multilateral diplomatic efforts involving Ukraine, the US and the EU regarding the grain deal. These initiatives are being coordinated through the foreign, defense and trade ministries. With the upcoming talks between Erdogan and Putin on the horizon, there has been a heightened focus on resolving issues that could impact the successful execution of the grain initiative," emphasized the source from the agency.

Meanwhile, the Milliyet newspaper asserts that Putin's visit to Turkey is slated for "the coming days." Concurrently, the Ahaber TV channel suggests that if the Russian leader doesn't come to the country, Erdogan may embark on a visit to Russia.

On August 3, Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian president, indicated that the location and precise date of the presidential meeting between Russia and Turkey will be meticulously arranged through diplomatic channels. A day prior, Peskov underscored that "the meeting's venue is under discussion; it doesn't necessarily have to be in Turkey."
