Turkey may expand the format of joint patrols with Russia in Syria

Turkey and Russia may expand the format of joint patrolling in Syria, Turkey's Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said on Wednesday commenting on the results of the trilateral talks in Moscow in late December.

"We have a very clear policy and always say that we respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our neighbors. Our only goal is to protect our country and its people and to eliminate terrorists who attack it. The talks that have taken place will continue, an agreement on that has been reached. The process will continue with regards to joint patrols and meetings on this topic," the Turkish minister said. TRT TV quoted him as saying.

Akar added that Turkey favors the safe return of Syrian refugees to their homeland. "We want the process [of returning] the refugees Turkey hosts to be voluntary and safe," he said.
