In a statement relayed to journalists by the official spokesperson for the United Nations, Stéphane Dujarric, Guterres underscored the importance of concerted efforts by the international community to avert further escalation, which could result in perilous outcomes for the region.
"The Secretary-General reiterates the imperative of ceasing the perilous cycle of retaliatory strikes in the Middle East. He condemns any retaliatory actions and urges the international community to collaborate in preventing any developments that may lead to catastrophic consequences in the region and beyond," the statement read.
