UN Secretary General Highlights Aid Delivery Challenges in Gaza Amid Ongoing Bombardment

16 January

In a statement posted on his X page (formerly Twitter), UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has underscored the formidable challenges faced by the United Nations in delivering humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, primarily due to the continuous and intense bombardment of the region

"The effective delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza is hindered by the relentless bombardment of the region. We urgently require security for our UN personnel and the restoration of logistics and business operations in the area," Guterres emphasized. He further highlighted that "right now, no one is safe anywhere in Gaza."

The escalating crisis in the Middle East was triggered by the infiltration of Hamas fighters from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory on October 7, 2023. In response, Israel imposed a complete blockade on Gaza and initiated strikes against the Strip, as well as parts of Lebanon and Syria. Subsequently, Israel launched a ground operation in the Gaza enclave, and clashes also erupted in the West Bank.
