UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres believes that the most viable foundation for peace in the Middle East is the concept of coexistence between an Israeli and Palestinian state.
During a UN Security Council open debate on the situation in the Middle East region, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stressed, "Even in this moment of grave and immediate danger, we cannot lose sight of the only realistic basis for genuine peace and stability - the two-state solution."
He further underlined the need for Israelis to see their legitimate security needs met and for Palestinians to realize their legitimate aspirations for an independent state in alignment with UN resolutions, international law, and prior agreements.
Additionally, Guterres highlighted the significance of combating disinformation, stating, "We must confront the forces of anti-Semitism, anti-Muslim bigotry, and all forms of hatred."
