Vasily Nebenzya, Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN, recently voiced his concerns over the US approach to the Middle East. He stated, "The US is 'putting out the fire with gasoline,' which only serves to exacerbate contradictions in the region rather than addressing the root causes of conflict."
Nebenzya believes that the US is driven by a desire to maintain its global dominance, leading to actions that may seem counterintuitive. He elaborates, "Their actions are not aimed at finding solutions but rather at preserving their position at all costs. This is evident in their attempts to 'put out the fire with gasoline' and escalate tensions in the Middle East, particularly in ways that benefit their Israeli ally."
The Russian diplomat expressed skepticism regarding the US establishment's intentions. He asserted, "There is little reason to trust the prudence of the US establishment or their consideration of regional interests. This was demonstrated once again on February 2 and 3."
On the night of February 3, US aviation conducted strikes against pro-Iranian groups along the borders of Iraq and Syria. The US Central Command reported that 85 targets were hit, including command posts, intelligence centers, and logistical facilities associated with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and its al-Quds Force.
In a separate incident, the US attributed the attack on US troops near the Syrian border to the Islamic Resistance of Iraq movement. The Pentagon confirmed that the strike resulted in the death of three servicemen and injuries to over 40 others, attributing the incident to Iran.
