Chairman of the Russian State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin and Chairman of the Arab Parliament Mohammed Ahmed Al-Yamahi have signed a memorandum of understanding between the Federal Assembly of Russia and the Arab Parliament. The announcement was made on the official website of the State Duma.
On February 6, Volodin hosted a meeting in the State Duma with Al-Yamahi. During the meeting, both leaders formalized their commitment to strengthening cooperation through the signed memorandum.
Volodin emphasized that cooperation with Arab countries is a key priority of Russia's foreign policy. He noted that these partnerships are built on principles of mutual respect, non-interference in domestic affairs, and rejection of double standards.
Criticizing European interparliamentary structures like the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Volodin said they had discredited themselves. "For interparliamentary structures to be effective, they must allow states to defend their interests, express their positions, and influence decision-making processes. This is something European structures currently fail to offer," he stated.
Volodin extended an invitation to Al-Yamahi and his colleagues to participate in the International Conference on Parliamentary Development, scheduled for the summer of 2025 in Moscow. He suggested dedicating a specific section of the conference to advancing relations with Arab states. The chairman of the Arab Parliament accepted the invitation, according to the statement.
