Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has condemned the United States' veto at the UN Security Council during the vote on a draft resolution for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, suggesting it reflects their attitude towards people. Zakharova made these remarks during an interview on Sputnik radio station.
"The US <...> is blocking the call for a ceasefire. This is their attitude towards people, not just people of the same nationality, but people in general," noted the diplomat. She emphasized the deteriorating situation and criticized the US for exacerbating tensions in the region.
Zakharova also highlighted the White House's imposition of sanctions against Israeli settlers, questioning the rationale behind such actions. "Just think about it. Did these settlers come out of nowhere? This is part of the state system, which was primarily supported by the United States. The US was the guarantor of the welfare of the people who developed these lands," she pointed out.
The United States utilized its veto power in the UN Security Council to block a draft resolution proposed by Algeria, which called for an immediate ceasefire in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone. Despite support from thirteen out of the 15 members, including Russia and China, and abstention from Great Britain, the United States stood alone in opposition to the document.
