Zakharova: Russian embassy in Sudan is taking all measures to ensure the safety of Russians

The Russian embassy in Khartoum is taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety of Russian citizens in Sudan and the situation is calm for the moment. This was stated in a comment by Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on Thursday in connection with the development of the situation in Sudan.


"We are closely following the development of the situation in Sudan. We are deeply concerned about the reports of a military coup attempt in Khartoum on the night of September 20-21. According to information received, the plot organizers have been detained. For now, the situation in the Sudanese capital is calm," said the diplomat. - "The Russian embassy in Khartoum is taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety of Russian citizens in Sudan".


According to Zakharova, Moscow supports the efforts of the Sovereign council as well as the current civilian government of Sudan to strengthen peace and stability in the republic and calls for a peaceful settlement of contradictions. "We call on all political forces of this country to resolve existing contradictions by peaceful means on the basis of a broad national dialogue and to refrain from actions that may lead to an escalation of tension in Sudanese society," she added.


"We expect that friendly Sudan will successfully overcome the difficulties associated with the current transitional stage of its development," the official representative of the Russian foreign ministry noted.
