Jakarta does not intend to decline Russian President Vladimir Putin's invitation to the upcoming G20 summit in November, even in case of pressure from third countries, Ambassador of Indonesia to Russia Jose Tavares told TASS.
The diplomat recalled that Indonesian President Joko Widodo has already sent invitations to all G20 leaders, including Putin. "Even if other countries started putting pressure, we have our own position. We have already clarified everything by sending out invitations," the ambassador stressed.
He also noted that Indonesia sees Russia as an important participant in the G20 as anyone else. "We have no right not to invite any member of the G20, but we do have the prerogative to invite other countries as guests. As you can see, in addition to G20 members, a number of other countries have been invited: representatives from the Pacific region and other countries that are not G20 members, including Ukraine. So this is the position taken by Indonesia," Tavares added.
On October 14, Putin said that the issue of his trip to the G20 summit in Indonesia has not yet been finally decided, but the Russian side will participate in this forum. It is to be held on the Indonesian island of Bali on November 15-16.
