Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan have decided to withdraw all military units from the conflict zone on one section of the common border, the Kyrgyz State Committee for National Security (SCNS) announced on Friday.

"A working meeting was held between the delegations of the parties. As a result of the meeting and negotiations, the sides decided: to instruct a joint commission to organize a thorough investigation of the causes of the conflict, with the participation of the relevant power structures and prosecution bodies and to withdraw all units of military formations from the relevant borderline," the report said.

The Kyrgyz side was represented at the meeting by Kamchybek Tashiyev, head of the SCNS and deputy chairman of the Cabinet, and Abdikarim Alimbayev, the presidential envoy for the Batken region.

According to the SCNS, the meeting also included agreements to return all previously evacuated local residents to their homes, unblock all roads, restore infrastructure, and strengthen control over the situation in border areas.

On Thursday, there was a conflict between representatives of the two countries at a section of the Tajik-Kyrgyz border. The Kyrgyz side accused the Tajik side of using weapons, including mortars and grenade launchers, and reported the influx of heavy equipment to the border from the neighboring republic. Tajikistan's SCNS reported gunfire from the Kyrgyz side, the use of mortars and drones, and civilian casualties. On Friday night, representatives of the sides managed to negotiate a cease-fire.
