The CSTO secretariat welcomes the signing of a protocol by Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to stabilize the situation in the border area and looks forward to its implementation to restore peace, CSTO spokesperson Vladimir Zaynetdinov told TASS on Monday.
"The CSTO secretariat welcomes the signing by the heads of the competent authorities of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan of the protocol of the meeting of the Kyrgyz and Tajik delegations on the stabilization of the situation in the border territories of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Tajikistan. <...> We hope that the signed protocol will be fully implemented and peace and mutual understanding will be restored on the border of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan," the statement reads.
The CSTO noted that the document was "signed to prevent provocative actions, to prevent the emergence of conflicts, as well as to ensure peace and stability in the border areas." Moreover, the organization positively evaluated the agreement of the parties to accelerate the works aimed at completing the project description of the state border line in the remaining areas.
The agreement of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan not to set border checkpoints near the section of the border where military clashes between soldiers of the two states occurred, "will have a significant positive influence on stabilization of the situation on the border," the CSTO report stresses. "Any attempts to use force for solving disputed issues are unacceptable and all border disagreements should be solved exclusively by political and diplomatic means," the organization concluded.
