Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev accepted on Wednesday the resignation of the government, which will continue to perform its duties until the appointment of a new Cabinet of Ministers. This is stated in a decree of the head of state published by his press service.
"In accordance with Article 70 of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan, I decree: Accept the resignation of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan. To temporarily assign the duties of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Smailov Alikhan Askhanovich," the document says.
It also notes that the members of the government will continue to perform their duties until the approval of the new composition of the Cabinet.
Smailov currently holds the position of first deputy prime minister. The previous government was approved in January last year after the elections to the Majilis, the lower house of parliament of the republic. At the same time, Askar Mamin was reappointed as head of the Cabinet of Ministers. He had held this position since February 2019.
Secretary of state
Tokayev dismissed Krymbek Kusherbayev from the post of state secretary on Wednesday and appointed his former assistant Yerlan Karin to the post.
"To appoint Karin Yerlan Tynymbayuly as state secretary of the Republic of Kazakhstan, relieving him of the post of assistant to the president of the Republic of Kazakhstan," the presidential decree reads.
Yerlan Karin was born in 1976. He had held the post of presidential aide since July 2020, and before that he worked as an adviser to the head of state.
First deputy chairman of the National Security Committee
Kazakhstan's president has appointed Murat Nurtleu, a former deputy of his administration, as first deputy chairman of the Republic's National Security Committee.
"By order of the head of state, Murat Abugaliyevich Nurtleu has been appointed first deputy chairman of the National Security Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan," the presidential decree reads.
The 45-year-old Nurtleu worked in different years as an assistant to the president of Kazakhstan and as Kazakhstan's ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to Finland and Estonia.
