Iranian spiritual leader Ali Khamenei, in a message to Russian President Vladimir Putin, expressed gratitude to the Russian side for its fair position on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on Iran's nuclear program. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, chairman of Iran's Mejlis (unicameral parliament), said this at a meeting with the scientific community at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Ghalibaf delivered this message earlier on Monday to State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin.
"In this message, the Supreme Leader of Iran thanked the Russian Federation and the People's Republic of China for the just position they have taken. It expresses gratitude," he said in response to a related question.
According to him, the topic of the nuclear deal is one of the main issues in the relations between Iran and Russia today.
Ghalibaf also stressed that cooperation between Tehran and Moscow should be strategic and go at an accelerated pace. According to the politician, the spiritual leader of Iran's message to Putin precisely marks this key strategy.
"We should be close to each other and [cooperate] in all areas: from [issues of] the environment, sociology, culture, relations between our peoples to politics, defense and security," the Iranian parliament speaker added.
