The Kremlin is observing the situation in Armenia with concern, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.
"We consider it exclusively an internal matter of Armenia - our very important and close ally in the Caucasus," he added.
Peskov also noted that Moscow urges everyone to stay calm - the situation must remain within the constitutional framework.
Today, the Armenian Armed Forces General Staff demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and warned him against using force against his people. Pashinyan called what happened a coup attempt, fired Chief of General Staff Onik Gasparyan and called on his supporters to gather near the government. Many residents of Yerevan once again took to the streets, they insist that the Chairman of the Government should leave his post.
Pashinyan's rating dropped sharply after he signed a cease-fire with Baku on Nagorno-Karabakh in the fall. Yerevan had to give up Kelbajar, Lachin and Agdam districts. After that, protests began in the country.
