Lebanon Describes Israeli Strikes as a "War of Extermination"

23 September

Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati has condemned Israeli airstrikes on Lebanese territory, calling them a "war of extermination" and urging the international community to intervene and restrain Israel.

"The ongoing Israeli aggression against Lebanon is a war of extermination in every sense of the word, aimed at destroying Lebanese villages and towns," Mikati emphasized during a government meeting, as quoted by the Lebanese cabinet's press office on Facebook (banned in Russia; owned by Meta corporation, considered extremist in Russia).

"We call on the United Nations, the UN Security Council, and influential countries to stand for the truth and curb [Israel's] aggression," he added. The prime minister noted that the Lebanese government is doing everything it can to stop the "Israeli war."

Earlier, Lebanese media reported continued heavy bombardments by Israeli aircraft on several areas in southern Lebanon. Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that its forces had struck 300 Hezbollah targets in Lebanon. IDF spokesperson Daniel Hagari urged residents of southern Lebanon to avoid locations suspected of housing Hezbollah weapons. According to Israeli military claims, Hezbollah is hiding weapons, including missiles, in residential areas.
