Units of the armed forces of Russia and Uzbekistan have started combat harmonization to carry out combat training tasks at the Termez mountain range on the border with Afghanistan, the press service of the Central Military District has reported.
"The special forces units of the two countries made a 15-kilometer march, overcoming an anti-personnel barrier, a ditch with water, a destroyed wall and a tunnel. The firing squads then completed army tactical firing exercises. Special attention was paid to mountain training using mountain climbing equipment," reads the report.
The Central Military District added that servicemen from the two countries conducted reconnaissance and search operations in mountainous terrain, practiced setting up ambushes on the routes of movement of the conventional enemy, and carried out a set of firing tasks from small arms using devices for silent firing.
About 1.5 thousand servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Uzbekistan take part in the exercise.
In Afghanistan, there is a confrontation between the government forces and the Taliban fighters (banned in Russia) who have occupied large territories in the rural areas and launched attacks on major cities. The aggravation occurs against the background of the withdrawal of troops of the United States and its allies, which is planned to be completed by September 11.
