Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin congratulated the citizens of the country on Unity Day, noting that the common goals of the Russian people help strengthen the country's sovereignty. The congratulatory telegram was published Friday on the government website.
"Over its history, Russia has repeatedly defended freedom and independence. It has proven that any challenges and trials make it stronger. Today, as many centuries ago, the unity of common goals and objectives of our multinational people is the basis for strengthening the country's sovereignty," the congratulatory message reads.
The prime minister noted that this holiday is celebrated as a sign of deep respect for the feat of ancestors, who defended their homeland more than four centuries ago.
The head of the government wished Russians success in their work, strong prosperity and peace.
Unity Day is celebrated in Russia since 2005. The holiday is set in memory of the liberation of Moscow from the Polish invaders in 1612 by the people's volunteer corps led by Kuzma Minin and Dmitry Pozharsky.
