The political agenda of the new Israeli government formed by Likud party leader Benjamin Netanyahu in coalition with far-right and orthodox religious parties is a threat to the Palestinian people, the Palestinian MFA said in a statement issued Friday.
"The State of Palestine rejects the invasive, violent, racist and hateful principles of the new Israeli government's ethnic cleansing policy. This political agenda is an existential threat to the Palestinian people and their inalienable rights," the foreign ministry pointed out. "The Palestinian people will not retreat in their legitimate quest for freedom and self-determination. Such criminal policies and colonizing behavior will not stop the Palestinian people from fighting for their rights," the statement stressed.
The Israeli parliament held an extraordinary session on Thursday, where deputies voted to trust Netanyahu's government created as a result of the November 1 elections, following which the ministers and the new prime minister were sworn in. Netanyahu said Wednesday that one of his cabinet's priorities will be the development of Jewish settlements in the West Bank and the Golan Heights. According to his statement, "the Jewish people have an exclusive and unquestionable right to all the territories of Israel," and therefore "the government will promote and develop settlements in all parts of Israel - in the Galilee, the Negev, the Golan, Judea and Samaria (the Israeli denomination for the West Bank - TASS)."
