According to Palestinian Ambassador to Moscow, Abdel Hafiz Nofal, negotiations between Palestine and Israel can be facilitated through the involvement of the Middle East Quartet, consisting of Russia, the United States, the United Nations and the European Union. In an interview with TASS on Tuesday, Ambassador Nofal expressed the belief that reactivating the Quartet would be the best option to address the escalating tensions in the region and pave the way for peace.
"We believe that reviving the Middle East Quartet is the most viable approach to halt the escalations. Previously, it was only the Americans who opposed it, but now both the Americans and the Europeans are united. This poses certain difficulties, but we firmly believe that engaging the Quartet is the best option for achieving a peaceful resolution. Negotiations between Palestine and Israel should take place with the involvement of the Quartet as international mediators," the ambassador stated.
He further added, "However, the American side has so far refused this proposal. Nevertheless, we remain steadfast in our position."
Recent aggression by Israeli forces in Jenin and the adjacent Palestinian refugee camp resulted in casualties and injuries. As per the Palestinian health ministry, 13 Palestinians were killed and at least 120 others were injured, with 20 individuals in critical condition. In response to these developments, the Palestinian leadership has decided to halt all contacts with Israeli authorities and reduce areas of coordination on security matters.
