Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in an address to the people on his Facebook page on Tuesday that the decision to end the conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh was made based on the situation on the front.

"We fought against terrorists, Azerbaijan and one of NATO's best armies, the Turkish," he said. "We made the decision based on the situation on the front. This decision was made based on an analysis of the military situation and advice from people who knew best what the true situation was," the prime minister said.

Pashinyan added that he had to take that step and stressed that all those who started the pogroms in Yerevan would be severely punished.

"There was no other choice but to sign a statement. I want to tell you a lot in connection with this situation, but I can't say anything yet, because my words will put in danger the military who are now at their positions," he said.
"Some of the belligerents in Yerevan were in Karabakh, but for some reason they left their positions and fled from there. Among them is the general. I officially declare that all instigators will be punished to the full extent of the law," the prime minister said.

After the information about the signing of the agreement on Karabakh was made public, residents of Yerevan from all over the city moved to the Republic Square to the government building. Some protesters against the decision to end the war in Nagorno-Karabakh broke into the building. The demonstrators asked one of the country's military leaders to take control of the situation. Later, the protesters broke into the parliament building.
