The implementation of the grain deal without Russia's participation is unlikely, it becomes more risky, Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Monday.
"In conditions when Russia says that it is impossible to guarantee the safety of navigation in these areas, of course, such a deal is hardly feasible, it acquires a different character, much more risky, dangerous and non-guaranteed," he said.
According to Peskov, Russia, through the foreign ministry and other agencies, continues its contacts with Turkey and the UN on the grain deal. At the same time, Peskov could not yet name the conditions of Moscow for a possible extension of the grain deal. "I'm not ready to answer this question yet, it's not an easy one," the Kremlin spokesperson said. At the same time, he noted that "contacts are in progress" on the grain deal.
According to Peskov, Russia will continue to support the poorest countries after withdrawal from the grain deal, certain measures have yet to be worked out. "I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that only a small share of all the grain supplied under this deal went to the poorest countries, the rest went to the non-poor countries that are in Europe. The question of how we are going to do it is complicated, not an easy one, and it has yet to be worked out. For now, we can guarantee that the Russian side is ready to compensate the falling out volumes at its own expense," Peskov explained.
