Attempts to interfere from outside in the situation in Belarus take place, Russian Presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Wednesday, stressing that this was unacceptable.
"In the current situation, the main thing is that there should be no outside influence, no outside interference in what is happening in Belarus. We regret to note that such direct interference has been attempted. We consider such interference unacceptable," Peskov said.
According to him, there is no need for Russia to provide assistance to Belarus through the Union state and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). He stressed that both the Collective Security Treaty and the Treaty on the Union state "do provide for a number of obligations of the parties on mutual assistance."
"But you know that there is no such need now, and the Belarusian leadership itself has recognized that there is no such need now," the Kremlin representative said. "Here hypothetical reasoning is absolutely unacceptable, impossible," Peskov replied to a request to say under what circumstances such assistance is possible.
"We assume that Belarusians will solve their problems themselves within the framework of dialogue, within the legal framework and without any outside interference," the Russian leader's press secretary concluded.
When asked to comment on media reports that columns of Russian military equipment are allegedly being sent to the border of Belarus, Peskov stressed that "Russian military equipment is located on the entire territory of the Russian Federation, so there is nothing to comment on here."
The Kremlin called for doing everything possible to preserve the situation in Belarus within the legal framework and establish the necessary dialogue within the country. "Belarus is our union state, a fraternal country, and the Belarusians are our fraternal people. We treat everything that happens in Belarus as an internal matter of this country. We believe that everyone should do everything necessary to create conditions for preserving the situation within the legal framework, in which the necessary dialogue could be held," Peskov said.
