Peskov: US Pressures Turkey, But It Acts in Its Own Interests by Strengthening Ties with Russia

13 September

The United States is exerting open pressure on Turkey, but Ankara continues to prioritize its own interests, particularly by strengthening relations with Moscow, according to Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary for the Russian president. Peskov made these remarks during a briefing.

"Indeed, the US is applying overt pressure on the Republic of Turkey, even resorting to economic threats," Peskov said in response to a question about whether Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's recent statement on Crimea being part of Ukraine was influenced by Washington.

Peskov emphasized that Turkey remains firmly committed to its own interests, including the ongoing development of trade, economic, and other forms of cooperation with Russia.

On September 11, Erdogan delivered a video message at the "Crimea Platform," an event organized by Ukraine. While he did not attend in person, Erdoğan referred to Ukraine's control over Crimea as a "requirement of international law."
