Putin and Erdogan to Hold Talks in Sochi on September 4

01 September 2023

Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to engage in discussions with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Sochi on September 4, as confirmed by Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary for the Russian leader.

"Yes, the discussions are set for Monday and will happen in Sochi around midday," stated the Kremlin spokesperson.

Erdogan's administration has confirmed the Turkish leader's intention to visit Sochi. However, they have not disclosed the exact date, stating that the final decision rests with the president.

This upcoming meeting marks the first in-person encounter between the two leaders since the grain deal was finalized. Their previous face-to-face meeting occurred on October 13, 2022, in Astana. Despite the infrequency of in-person meetings, Presidents Putin and Erdogan maintain regular contact. Their most recent telephone conversation transpired on August 2. Erdogan last visited Russia just over a year ago, with the meeting taking place in Sochi on August 5, 2022.
