Russia's contribution to the settlement of the conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh was decisive, Russian President Vladimir Putin believes.

"With Russia's decisive contribution, the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh was stopped," the head of state said in a video address to the participants and guests of the 9th Moscow Conference on International Security published on the Kremlin website on Wednesday.

Putin noted that Russian peacekeepers reliably guarantee peace and security in the region, are doing a lot to improve the humanitarian situation, clear territories of landmines and rebuild the social infrastructure.

The situation in Nagorno-Karabakh escalated on September 27 last year and active fighting broke out there. On November 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a joint statement on the complete cessation of hostilities in Karabakh. According to the document, the Azerbaijani and Armenian sides halt at the occupied positions, then a number of areas, including Kelbajar, come under Baku's control, and Russian peacekeepers are deployed along the line of contact and the Lachin corridor.
