Russian President Vladimir Putin is expecting Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi to visit Russia in early 2022.

At a press conference following talks with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the Russian president said he had discussed the Iranian problem with his US counterpart Joe Biden via video link.

"We talked about the Iranian problem, I expect that my invitation will be accepted by the president of Iran, he will be able to visit Russia early next year," the Russian leader said. He assured that Moscow would "inform Iranian friends and partners in detail about how the dialogue with the Americans on this issue is going."

"We will continue discussing this topic during the Iranian president's possible visit to Russia early next year," the Russian president said.

According to Yuri Ushakov, an aide to the Russian leader, Putin stressed at the talks with Biden that the parameters of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on the Iranian nuclear program originally agreed upon must be observed. The Kremlin spokesman noted that the positions of Moscow and Washington on this topic "do not diverge far from each other." According to Ushakov, Putin and Biden expressed the hope that the negotiations in this area, which resumed in Vienna at the end of November, would continue moving in a more constructive direction and would eventually achieve solutions acceptable to all participants.
