Putin expressed condolences to the President of Lebanon in connection with the explosion in the port of Beirut

Vladimir Putin sent a message of condolence to President of the Republic of Lebanon Michel Aoun in connection with the loss of human life and large-scale destruction caused by an explosion in the port of Beirut, the Kremlin press service reported on Tuesday.

 


“We in Russia share the grief of the Lebanese people.  Please convey my words of sympathy and support to the victims’ families and friends and wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured,” the President of Russia noted.

 

A powerful explosion occurred on Tuesday in the area of the seaport of Beirut near the base of the Lebanese Navy. According to the latest data, 12 people were killed and hundreds were injured in the explosion. Fire crews work in the port, and helicopters extinguish fires that have broken out from the air.
