Russian President Vladimir Putin has conveyed sincere congratulations to Emir Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah of Kuwait on his accession to the throne, as per a telegram published on the Kremlin's website.
In the message, Putin expressed, "Your Highness, please accept my heartfelt congratulations on the occasion of your ascending to the throne. I genuinely wish you success in your state activities, along with good health and well-being."
Putin highlighted the enduring tradition of amicable relations between Russia and Kuwait. "I am confident that these relations will continue to flourish across various domains, serving the interests of our peoples and contributing to the reinforcement of peace and security in the Middle East," affirmed the Russian leader.
On Wednesday, Emir Mishal, following the constitutional protocol, took the oath of office before the National Assembly, Kuwait's unicameral parliament. He succeeded Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who passed away on December 16. According to the Kuwaiti Constitution, the throne automatically transitions to the crown prince after the emir's demise, but assuming power requires the crown prince to take the oath of office before the parliament.
