Russian President Vladimir Putin and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev discussed the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh in a telephone conversation, the Kremlin press service reported on Thursday.
"The situation around Nagorno-Karabakh was discussed. It was noted with satisfaction that the situation is generally stable and the ceasefire regime is strictly observed," the Kremlin noted.
It is also reported that taking into account the talks in Baku, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk reviewed the progress of work on the establishment of economic ties and transport communications in the South Caucasus, carried out in accordance with the statements of the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia of November 9, 2020, and January 11, 2021. "In this context, the work of the Working Group, co-chaired by the deputy prime ministers of the three countries, was positively assessed," the Kremlin reported.
The parties also discussed cooperation in the fight against coronavirus. According to the Kremlin press service, the conversation "touched on a number of topical issues of the bilateral agenda, including cooperation in the fight against the spread of coronavirus infection."
"Mutual attunement to continue strengthening of the Russian-Azerbaijani strategic partnership, promotion of mutually beneficial projects was confirmed," the Kremlin noted, adding that during the conversation "it was agreed on further contacts."
Starting from January 18, vaccination of the population against coronavirus by CoronaVac vaccine of Chinese company Sinovac Biotech, with which a contract for the supply of 4 million doses of the drug was signed, was launched in Azerbaijan. The country's authorities also gave permission to use the Russian drug Sputnik V.
