Russian President Vladimir Putin had a phone conversation with Ahmed al-Sharaa, the President of the Transitional Period of the Syrian Arab Republic, as reported by the Kremlin press service.
Vladimir Putin reaffirmed Russia’s unwavering readiness to support Syria in improving its socio-economic situation, including providing humanitarian aid to its citizens.
“The leaders discussed several key aspects of practical cooperation in trade, the economy, education, and other areas, taking into account the recent visit of a Russian interdepartmental delegation to Damascus,” the Kremlin statement said.
The Russian president wished Ahmed al-Sharaa success in addressing the tasks facing the new leadership of the country for the benefit of the Syrian people, emphasizing the historically friendly and mutually beneficial relations between Syria and Russia.
The two leaders agreed to maintain similar productive contacts to develop a comprehensive agenda for bilateral cooperation. According to the Kremlin, the discussion was constructive, business-like, and substantive.
This was the first phone conversation between Putin and Ahmed al-Sharaa, although the new Syrian leader had previously met with Russia’s Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov.
