Asia, where new centers of power are emerging, plays a major role in the transition to a multipolar world order. Russian President Vladimir Putin said this on Thursday, speaking at the summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA).

"The world is becoming truly multipolar. And a very noticeable, if not the key role in this is played by Asia, where new centers of power are getting stronger," he said.

The Russian leader pointed out that Asian countries are the engine of global economic growth. "Here, integration associations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and the Eurasian Economic Union are working dynamically, with good results," he said.

In all these processes, Putin continued, Russia is also actively involved. "We stand for the development and prosperity of Asia, the creation to this end of a wide open space of mutually beneficial trade and investment cooperation, for the expansion and deepening of cooperative ties in various sectors of the economy," assured the Russian president.

He recalled that it was Moscow that stood at the origins of the CICA Business Council, through which over the years "many successful conferences and seminars on the entire range of economic topics" have been held.

"And, of course, together with other Asian states, we do everything to form a system of equal, indivisible security based on the universal, recognized principles of international law and the UN Charter," Putin concluded.
