Leaders of Kyrgyz and Tajik border regions have started negotiations over the aggravated situation on the common part of the border. This was reported on Wednesday by the Border Service of the Kyrgyz State Committee for National Security.
"Delegations of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, led by the leaders of Kyrgyzstan's Batken region and Tajikistan's Sughd region, met in Radar of Batken district," the report said.
The meeting is also attended by border representatives of the sides, "heads of departments of security, defence and law enforcement agencies and district administrations of the two republics."
"The situation at the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border in Batken region is currently defined as tense," the agency said.
According to the Kyrgyz side, on September 14, Tajik border guards entered an unmarked section of the border near Bulak-Bashy area of Batken district of Batken region of Kyrgyzstan and "took up combat positions." In response to the Kyrgyz soldiers' demand to leave the area, the Tajik border guards opened fire, followed by shootings. A few hours later, there was also a shooting in Kak-Sai and Pasky-Aryk of Batken region.
The Kyrgyz side reported two servicemen wounded in the incident.
