Russia and Egypt reached an understanding on the issue of payments to relatives of the victims of the 2015 plane crash over the Sinai Peninsula, the details are now being worked out through the Federation of tourism chambers of Egypt. This was stated in a commentary distributed on Thursday by Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.

"During negotiations with the Egyptian side through the Russian foreign ministry, special attention was invariably paid to the topic of payment of material assistance to the families of the Russians killed in the terrorist attack. Constant communication was maintained with associations of relatives of the passengers and crew killed, in particular, the charity fund "Flight 9268". As a result of these efforts, the Russian embassy in Cairo has reached an understanding with Egyptian partners on this issue," said the document.

Specific details of the payment procedure are currently being worked out. "We hope that corresponding agreements will be coordinated immediately between the representatives of Egyptian tourist enterprises and relatives of the deceased Russians. We will continue to promote this in every possible way," Zakharova added.

Flight services between Russia and Egypt were completely interrupted in November 2015 after the crash of the plane of the Russian company "Kogalymavia" flying from Sharm el-Sheikh to St. Petersburg in Sinai. There were 217 passengers and seven crew members on board, all of whom died. The FSB qualified the incident as a terrorist attack
