Russia is supporting and striving to enhance the role of BRICS as a hub for nations that wish to navigate their foreign policies independently, Russian Ambassador to Washington Anatoly Antonov said in an article for Newsweek.
"The primary objective of Russia's chairmanship of the association is to bolster and reinforce the role of BRICS as a credible center of attraction for countries that are eager to chart their own course in foreign policy. These nations do not desire to be subjected to the dominion of others but aspire to foster friendly relations, engage in commerce, and interact with the global community on terms of equality. For these countries, the core principles of the association—sovereign equality, mutual and consensual interest representation, the quest for a balanced global market model, and the pursuit of collaborative solutions to contemporary challenges—are not merely empty rhetoric," Antonov wrote.
He clarified that the priorities outlined do not imply that BRICS member states view the association as a means to resist the collective West. Instead, the association's purpose is to promote a constructive and unifying agenda. Antonov emphasized that membership in the group is not imposed upon any state; it is contingent on their individual goals and desires.
