Moscow expects that the agreement between the four Arab states (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, Egypt) and Qatar on the restoration of diplomatic relations, reached as a result of the summit of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), will be fully implemented in practice, the Russian Foreign Ministry's statement issued on Wednesday reads.
"Moscow welcomes the agreements reached in Al-Ula, which were a manifestation of the goodwill of the leaders of the GCC and Egypt, as well as a result of the relevant mediation efforts carried out by Kuwait," the diplomatic office stressed. - "We consider the results of the summit as proof of the principled will of the participating states to put an end to disputes and disagreements and to restore mutual trust and good neighborly relations. We trust that these intentions will be fully realized in practice".
The Russian Foreign Ministry also expressed hope that the resolution of the crisis around Qatar would promote a constructive agenda in the Middle East and North Africa region. "We consider it especially important that within the framework of such an approach, the tasks of establishing an equal and respectful dialogue with the participation of all states located there and the creation by them of collective mechanisms of response to the existing challenges and threats," and pointed out that Moscow remains convinced that only this way in this region of the world can ensure reliable security, long-term stability and sustainable development.
"Russia, in turn, will continue to contribute in every way possible to the achievement of these goals," the ministry concluded.
On Tuesday, Saudi Arabia hosted the 41st summit of the GCC, which includes Bahrain, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Saudi Arabia. Its main result was the signing of an agreement to end all disputes with Qatar, restore full diplomatic relations as well as resuming flights and lifting the blockade. Foreign Minister of Egypt Sameh Shoukry also put his signature under the document. The leaders paid tribute to Sultan Qaboos bin Said of Oman and Emir Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah of Kuwait, who died in 2020, who made many efforts to overcome the conflict and were active meditators.
