Russian Ambassador: Global South and East Set Their Own Rules

12 August

Russian Ambassador to India Denis Alipov stated that countries in the Global South and East are no longer adhering to Western-imposed rules and are instead establishing their own standards. Alipov made these remarks at a conference hosted by the BRICS Chamber of Commerce and Industry, an Indian NGO dedicated to fostering economic ties.

"For too long, there have been two sets of rules: one for them and one for the rest of us," Alipov said. "The West can no longer claim to have superior knowledge. It is time for the Global South and East to assert themselves as equal rule makers."

The ambassador also emphasized the need for reform within the United Nations and advocated for India to be granted a permanent seat on the Security Council, a position Russia fully supports.

"BRICS has built a reputation for advocating a fair and just multipolar world," Alipov remarked. "Bilateral relations between Russia and India have been instrumental in this effort."

He highlighted the recent surge in trade between Russia and India, noting that Russia has become India's fourth-largest trading partner. "This growth is largely driven by oil exports, but it also includes significant quantities of agricultural products, coal, and other goods. The increase in Indian exports to Russia is also a positive development," Alipov added.
