Moscow strongly condemns the assassination of nuclear physicist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh in Iran, aimed at destabilizing the region. This is stated in the comments of the Department of Information and Press of the Russian Foreign Ministry distributed on Monday.

"We strongly condemn the murder of scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh on November 27 in Iran. We express our serious concern over the provocative nature of this terrorist act clearly aimed at destabilizing the situation and aggravating the conflict potential in the region. Whoever is behind the assassination and whoever tries to use it in his political interests must hold responsibility for this," the ministry said.

The comments note that stability and security in the Middle East region and the Persian Gulf zone is Russia's invariable priority. Russia's efforts and initiatives within the UN, other international platforms and bilateral relations with the states of the region are aimed at its implementation, the Foreign Ministry added.

"We call on all parties to refrain from steps that could lead to the escalation of tension," the Foreign Ministry said.
