The international community needs to step up efforts to address the dire humanitarian situation in Yemen, the statement of the Russian MFA reads.
The ministry noted that according to incoming information, about 90 people were killed in Sanaa on April 19 as a result of a crowd crush occurred while distributing humanitarian aid to the population, several dozen were hospitalized.
"In this tragic incident we see yet another confirmation of the absolute priority and urgency of the task to resolve the dire humanitarian situation in Yemen. This requires stepping up international efforts to provide the necessary assistance to all Yemenis in need, regardless of where they live, as well as working toward a complete lifting of the blockade of this country, including removing restrictions on the functioning of airports and seaports, unblocking roads and ensuring favorable conditions for the work of humanitarian organizations," the Russian foreign ministry said.
Moscow expects that the leading Yemeni political forces will soon be able to agree on these and other issues within a constructive dialogue under the aegis of the UN, aimed at achieving comprehensive and sustainable normalization of the situation in the friendly Yemen Republic, emphasized the Russian diplomatic mission.
The foreign ministry also expressed its condolences to the families and friends of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
